Resort Initiatives
The Moon Palace’s commitment to preserving the Riviera Cancún region is truly inspiring. 90% of the resort’s energy is produced by a third party which uses carbon credits to support clean energy. Additionally, all rooms in Moon Palace and The Grand are equipped with sensors which optimize energy saving. Complimentary bike rentals are also offered throughout the property which provide guests with a carbon-free transportation option during their stay.
Each month, more than 150 tons of organic waste is composted at the resort and used in gardening activities, golf course maintenance and ornamental plant production. Nearly 3,000 litres of biodiesel fuel is also produced at the Moon Palace on a monthly basis using burned oil from its kitchens. This fuel helps power various maintenance vehicles throughout the property.
The Moon Palace is currently preserving 325 acres of protected lands. This mangrove area plays a key role in carbon sequestration and functions as a habitat for species that are categorized as being “at-risk” by the Mexican government. The resort has also protected 9.3 km of beach in Quintana Roo and Benito Juárez for sea turtle conservation. To date, over 1.7 million turtle hatchlings have been released into the wild, the most abundant being the white turtle (Chelonia mydas).
Venue Initiatives
In addition to several large-scale prevention strategies, we’ve launched a number of exciting greening initiatives within our private concert venue. Examples include compostable plates, cups, cutlery and napkins which are utilized for food and beverages in addition to all trash in the venue getting sorted post-event and diverted from landfill. Water Refill stations are also available inside the concert area in an effort to eliminate the need for single-use plastic bottles. Additionally, plastic straws are banned resort-wide during all CID Presents events.
Carbon Offsets
Whenever possible, CID Presents teams up with REVERB to neutralize the carbon footprint of our events in Mexico via verified clean energy or carbon mitigation projects. To do this, we calculate every flight (including artist and staff travel), as well as the energy used in resort rooms and throughout the venue. As part of REVERB’s unCHANGEit climate campaign, we fund regional projects which directly eliminate greenhouse gas from the air. Past initiatives include reforestry programs in the states of Tabasco, Nayarit, and Chiapas, Mexico in addition to the Eurus Wind Farm in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Ocean Champions
CID Presents and Moon Palace Cancún have been recognized by Oceanic Global as Ocean Champions. This certification was awarded after review of the efforts taken within our 2020 concert venue. Oceanic Global and our partners at REVERB are committed to assisting CID Presents in the reduction of single-use plastics, with the ultimate goal of eventually producing plastic free events.
